Legislative Links & Up-Dates 

 

The Baltimore County Medical Association Legislative Committee and Board of Directors prides itself on keeping its members up-to-date on current legislative issues and the responses that affects the physicians of Baltimore County. Along with MedChi's Legislative Committee, Board of Directors and it's lobbing team; are are guided yearly legislative focuses used to set each session years agenda.  It is with combined efforts that we have made numerous legislative achievements over the years. With all the combined efforts in place, we still need your help.  PLAN TO PARTICIPATE, BE ACTIVE, ADVOCATE for you and the state of healthcare in Maryland.  If you have any question, always feel free to contact the Association at 410-296-1232.

 

  • Participate as PHYSICIAN OF THE DAY:   During the Legislative Session, January - April, physicians are needed to volunteer in in the First Aid Room, located in the State House in Annapolis. Physicians are needed Mondays from 5 to 9 p.m., Tuesdays - Thursday from 9:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Please take a day to help with this project.   It is actually fun and very interesting.   Emeritus Physicians, who have an active license, are encouraged to participate as well.  There will also be a schedule of hearings and meetings that deal with health-related issues posted right in the First Aid Room.  Volunteers are encouraged to sit in on these meetings.  If you are interested you can contact the association at 410-296-1232 or contact Stephanie Wisniewski, 1-800-492-1056, ext. 6001 or email swisniewski@medchi.org.

  • Physicians' Day in Annapolis: Each year The BCMA holds it's annual Day in Annapolis.  This event usually consist of  Carpooling will leave from Sheppard Pratt Hospital, at 7:00 a.m. and from other parts of the county where people would like to meet. Some years we are joined with the Baltimore City Medical Society and the Harford County Medical Society.  

    The day usually begin with a light breakfast and an update on the status of legislation in the MedChi building in Annapolis. Participants will then have appointments with the Baltimore County delegation.  Talking points and packets are provided.  Then ending with lunch with the delegation and returning approximately by 2:30 p.m.  The 2012 schedule day in Annapolis will be February 29, 2012.

     

  • MedChi's Legislative Committee MeetingsEach Monday night throughout the legislative session MedChi holds a statewide legislative committee meeting. This give our docs the opportunity to review and discuss the position on each bill concerning the healthcare situations in Maryland.  All physicians should participate.   For more information on the committee go to www.medchi.org or contact Stephanie Wisniewski, 1-800-492-1056, ext. 6001.
